Stellar Blade Channel Catfish Location Guide - Where to Find & Catch for Unforgettable Fish Dish
Complete guide to finding Channel Catfish in Stellar Blade. Best locations, required bait (Wriggling Insect), and tips for the Unforgettable Fish Dish quest.
Stellar Blade Channel Catfish - Need This Fish for a Quest? Here’s Where to Find It!
Just finished the “Unforgettable Fish Dish” quest and wanted to share the best spots for catching Channel Catfish since I spent way too long fishing in the wrong places at first! 🎣
TL;DR - Quick Channel Catfish Guide
Best Location: Small pond near Xion’s exit (tunnel to Wasteland)
Required Bait: Wriggling Insect
Quest: “An Unforgettable Fish Dish” (4000 Gold reward)
Use Wriggling Insect bait and you’ll catch one pretty quickly!
Why You Need Channel Catfish
Main Reason: “An Unforgettable Fish Dish” side quest from the bulletin board
Reward: 4000 Gold (pretty decent payout!)
Also Good For: Fish collection completion (it’s one of 25 total fish species)
This is one of the first fishing quests you’ll encounter, so it’s a great introduction to the fishing system.
Best Channel Catfish Locations
Location #1: Xion Exit Pond (BEST SPOT)
Where: Small pond in the tunnel connecting Xion to the Wasteland
Why it’s great: Easy to access, high spawn rate for Channel Catfish
How to get there:
- Fast travel to Xion
- Head toward the Wasteland exit
- Look for the small pond in the tunnel area
- You’ll see the fishing spot marker
This is honestly the most reliable spot. I caught mine here on the second cast!
Location #2: Eidos 7 Clock Tower Pond
Where: Near the clock tower in Eidos 7
Access: Fast travel to Plaza Entryway, walk toward clock tower
Good backup option if the first spot isn’t working for you.
Location #3: Wasteland Northern Cave
Where: Hidden cave north of Solar Tower in Wasteland
Note: Bit more out of the way, but another confirmed spawn location
Required Bait: Wriggling Insect
What you need: Wriggling Insect bait (not Small Shrimp!)
Where to buy: Clyde’s shop in the Great Desert
Cost: Pretty cheap, stock up on a few
Pro tip: Channel Catfish is a medium-sized fish, so it won’t bite on Small Shrimp. Make sure you’re using Wriggling Insect or you’ll be there forever! 😅
Step-by-Step Fishing Guide
- Get the quest from the bulletin board in Xion
- Buy Wriggling Insect bait from Clyde (if you don’t have any)
- Go to the Xion exit pond (tunnel to Wasteland)
- Equip Wriggling Insect bait
- Cast your line and wait for a bite
- Complete the fishing minigame (follow the on-screen prompts)
- Return to bulletin board to claim your 4000 Gold!
Fishing Tips From My Experience
- Don’t use Small Shrimp - Channel Catfish won’t bite on it (learned this the hard way!)
- Buy Fishing Data from Clyde if you’re having trouble - makes medium fish easier to catch
- Be patient - sometimes it takes a few casts, but it’s not too rare
- Check your bait - make sure you actually equipped the Wriggling Insect before casting
- The fishing spot glows - look for the blue sparkly area in the water
Other Fish at These Locations
While you’re fishing for Channel Catfish, you might also catch:
At Xion Exit Pond:
- Koi (also uses Wriggling Insect)
- Mackerel (Wriggling Insect)
- Sea Bass (Wriggling Insect)
- Salmon (Wriggling Insect)
At Eidos 7 Clock Tower:
- Flying Fish (Wriggling Insect)
- Triggerfish (Wriggling Insect)
- Various large fish with Fish Slice bait
About the “Unforgettable Fish Dish” Quest
Quest Giver: Bulletin Board in Xion
Reward: 4000 Gold
Difficulty: Easy (once you know where to go!)
This is part of a series of fishing-related quests that eventually lead to unlocking better bait types. It’s worth doing all the fishing quests since they unlock:
- Better bait (Special Bait, Fantastic Bait)
- Ocean Maid costume (for catching all 25 fish)
- Various fishing achievements
Common Mistakes I Made (So You Don’t Have To!)
- Using wrong bait - Spent 10 minutes with Small Shrimp wondering why nothing was biting 🤦♂️
- Fishing in the wrong spots - Tried the Great Desert Oasis first (Channel Catfish doesn’t spawn there)
- Not buying Fishing Data - Makes medium fish much easier to catch
- Giving up too quickly - Sometimes takes 3-4 casts, don’t get discouraged
Final Thoughts
Channel Catfish is one of the easier fish to catch once you know the right location and bait. The Xion exit pond is definitely your best bet - it’s convenient and has a good spawn rate.
The 4000 Gold reward is pretty nice for an early-game quest, and it’s a good introduction to the fishing system before you tackle the more complex fish later on.
Still having trouble? Make sure you’ve unlocked fishing by completing the “Looking Glass” quest with Clyde first. You can’t catch Channel Catfish (or any fish) until you’ve done that initial fishing tutorial!
Happy fishing! 🎣
